9 AF attack on 8 October 1944
On that date 39 B-26 of 9 AF were detailed to attack an unusual target for them i.e. the tiny harbour of Breskens, which was at that time still in German hands. The bombers dropped 63 tons of explosives at 16.10 hrs and subsequently reported the results as excellent (MFA 810 reported 1 kia, 1 mia and 4 wounded!).
I would like to know more mission details about this attack and also why a 9th unit was selected for an area where usually No.2 Group bombers were called to intervene when necessary. |

Wim,
Although I found no details (yet), the general strategy behind it may be found here: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/III/AAF-III-17.html Go to pages 612 and 613 where the Scheldt operations are discussed. Groet uit West-Vlaanderen, Leendert |
