Friendly fire incident 1942 - 609 Typhoons & 91 Spitfires
I was wondering if anyone here could shed some more light on a friendly fire incident that took place on December 18th 1942 between some Typhoons of 609 Sqn and some Spitfires of 91 Sqn.
I know from the book `No 91 Nigeria Squadron' by Peter Hall, that Sgt Jack Chittick was flying Spitfitre VB EP508 and was shot down by the Typhoon's and that his wingman ( my great uncle ) managed to evade them. I know this report covers the basics of what happened, but would there be any more info, would there have been any kind of inquiry ? Many thanks for any help. Oops. Sorry, I seem to have placed this thread in the wrong forum section. I did try and delete it and re-post it again in the correct section, but I don't seem to be able to delete the whole post , only edit it ? Please could a moderator move it. Sorry and thanks.http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/images/misc/progress.gif |
