Me 262 Nightfighter - helping a friend.

Hi,

I'm trying to help a friend that wish to know what kind of weapons were installed on the Me 262 B1-a/U1, "Red 6", that was captures by americans in the end of the war.

What kind of weapons had? MK 108 or MG 151/20? And how many? 2 or 4?

Any information will be welcome.

Thank's

Claude

claude,

2 MK108 cannons in the upper positions. The lower cannon positions were used for the 'pipes' to mount the antenna.

from pics in Vol 4 pg 845-47 of the 4 book 262 series by Smith and Creek

WNr 110306/USA2/999/FE610 was initially captured by the British at Schleswig-Jagel.

Claude,

The 4 book series was published by Classic Publications. Vol 4 is ISBN 1-903223-04-0.

Gentlemen!

What abut that theory - it was just a blast tube on MK 108 barell.
MG 151/20 had different ammo-feed system, was it possible to arrange in normal Me 262 cannon bay?
What about Ersatzteil-liste, did it mention similar modification?

I think about MK 108 blast tube which help to avoid melting the antena with cannon fire. MK 108 installed in Fw 190 A8/R2 wing had similar "Uberrohr", maybe it was the same, but longer tube?

Are there any clear photos of that "antena pipes" mentioned before?

best regards
Kuba

Hi Kuba.

You is right. Serves me right for just using the color profile and not looking closer at the pics. The 'pipe' is an extended blast tube. Should have looked at the cut-away drawing Vol 3, as well.

So was 4 30 mm cannons. So sorry claude for steering you wrong.

Well, the clear evidence for me beeing wrong is now available.
I've got a clear in front photo, those were really MG 151/20 barrels in lower gunports.
The characteristic shape of MG 151/20 barrel is celarly recognizable.
I'd love to see those MG 151/20 fitting, feeding & electric system!
