Check Ju 88 claim on 1st January 1945
Good night to all!
I am checking a 268 Squadron claim over a Junkers Ju 88 on the 1st January 1945, near Utrecht. From the information I do possess, there are two possible candidats: 1- A Ju 88 G-6, werk 620404 from 9./NJG 1 flown by Uffz L. Mayer - shot down near Kockengen ( which is some 10km to the WNW of Utrecht ) 2- A Ju 88 G-6, werk 620441 from 7./NJG 2 flown by Oblt H Meier shot down over Meerkerk ( which is 25 km to the SSW of Utrecht near Zederik ). I do have 3 more Ju 88 G losses ( a G-1 and two G-6 ). I am not counting the two NJG 3 losses during the night of 31/12 to 01st January. I would like to obtain more details about the other RAF claims against Ju 88 twins that day, if available; to cross-check the losses and positively determine the identity of the 268 Squadron´s pilot claim. Many thanks in advance Adriano Baumgartner |

Hi Adriano, I believe F/L Mercer of 268 Sqd. claimed a Ju188 which was in fact Ju88G-1 G9+AC 714277 of 5/NJG1 . Crew Ff Uffz Wilhelm Fischer, Bf Uffz Heinz Bohle, Bf Ogef Simon Dagn, Bm Ogef Alois Stocklow all killed in crash near the village of Barneveld. Mission leading aircraft of I and II/JG27 on Bodenplatte. All covered in the John Manrho/Ron Putz excellent Bodenplatte book,
