N° 613 Squadron

Bonjour,

Can anyone tell me where was 613 Sqn based during operation "Dynamo", when it flew its venerable Hectors over Dunkirk?
James Halley says Netherthorpe, but it looks way too far and I assume 613 had an advanced base closer to France.

Thanks.

Chris

Chris,

613 Squadron took the Hector on charge in November 1939 and used them until July 1940.

Up until April 1940 they had detachments at Weston Zoyland and Hawkinge. They moved to Netherthorpe 30 June 1940.

'RAF Squadrons' - Jefford.

Thanks, Peter.
Hawkinge looks like a better place to operate from.

Hi Chris,

For their operations over Calais on 26th and 27th May, 613 Sqn flew down from Odiham to Hawkinge. They returned to Odiham on 27th. Two days later, 29th, they again flew down to Hawkinge for a third mission over Calais. This mission was cancelled and the sqn flew back to Odiham.
