Seventh Photo Group
My father-in-law left a photo album titled "With the Eyes of the Seventh Photo Group" It was approved by SHAEF for publication on 16 June 1945. The publication authorization contains the Identifier(I think it is an identifier) No 87.
There are photos of both a number of organizations as well as some BDA photos. Some of the units mentioned in the album are the 381st Service Squadron, 451st Air Services Group, 827th Air Engineering Squadron. It appears that most of the aircraft are P-38. I am looking for information as to where I might donate this album to an interested organization or museum.. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Don |
Re: Seventh Photo Group
Hello Don
It is possible that you have one of the abridged editions of this work published at the end of the war since you did not mention any of the actual photo recon squadrons which formed the 7th PRG. If you have pages of the pilots of the 13th, 14th, 22nd and 27th Squadrons then you have a real collector's item. If this is the case then my recommendation would be to either donate it to a historian who specializes in this sort of thing or sell it on Ebay or Amazon. If you donate it to a museum or interested organization it will probably never be opened again. BTW the primary aircraft flown by the 7th Photo Group were F-5s (p-38s), British Spitfires and P-51s. Re: Seventh Photo Group
Scott,
Thanks for getting me started. I have not looked at every page but I don't think the Pilots are included. My Fr.-in-law was an aircraft mechanic. There are pages of photographs of many support organizations such as hospital, transportation, etc. I will take a more thorough look and see if I can get a little more specific. Don |
