The picture is of Rothwesten. I was stationed there from 1963-66. Here is a web page I made about it, with many photos. Most of the buildings that the troops lived in, and support buildings are located just past what is shown at the top of the picture, and to the right in a very thick wooded area.

Nice photos again!

The one about the "airfield near Ghent" is letting me absolutely dumbfounded: I have no idea where it is! I could not believe it...

Any additional info on the mission/targets of the day or anything else?

Hi JV

I will do some checking on Google Earth as I doubt that my father can remember the specifics of the mission that day. By the way I found some additional v-weapons sites photos which I will be scanning in the next week or so including a high res copy of the destruction at Siracourt. It is an oblique photo taken from a few hundred feet altitude by Lt Col Norris Hartwell flying an F-5. I will be adding those to my v-weapons set on Flickr.

Hello Scott!

I have shown the photo to many people in the (usual) know, so far none of them came up with something...It will be a tough nut to crack, if only because it seems to be an airfield built very late in the war, so it did not leave many traces in the collective memory!

Hello Scott!

The "airfield near Ghent" is Sankt Niklaas airfield, on the road between Ghent and Antwerpen. The airfield is now a small recreational lake...

Santa Claus (aka 'Père Noël') is different of Saint-Nicolas (or Sint-Niklaas in Flemish) !-), moreover he brings more presents ;-))
