Help for pilot identification.
Name: Albert Bauer
Born: August 1923 – Schwarzhofen Flew Ju–88 against England and latter Me-109 (?) Went Russian front under Flieger-Division 1 in Luftflotte 4 flying Fw–190 and Ju-87 under Meinhof command. Says to have done several missions with Rudel´s group till 1944 when transferred to Fallschim-Panzer-Division Hermann Göring. The pilot submited his manuscript but has been unable to correctly identify the units he flew, all papers lost. Any piece of information able to confirm some of his statments are very welcomed. I was told his history is well written and very interesting. It would be nice to get some confirmation and give a positive response for a future book. Thanks in advance! |
Re: Help for pilot identification.
Hi, Sergio
What rank did he obtain by the end of the war? Seems his career was quite colourful to say the least... Might have some ideas for You on how to proceed. Regards, Andreas Brekken |
Re: Help for pilot identification.
Hi Andreas, I´ll ask the publisher if the rank is mentioned. If not I´ll suggest him to ask Bauer. Thanks.

Re: Help for pilot identification.
An important update.
The manuscript is still being read but some info has been collected and sent to me. I hope it helps for a positive identification or... not. He flew with KG55 under Fischer command at Caen, France, 1943. Them applied for a fighter group. He then went to JG2 under Egon Mayer. Claims to have shot down 2 Lancaster and one Spitfire within JG2. At war´s end says to have shot down 14 aircrafts. As reading progress I´ll post more details about his flights with Fw-190 and Ju-87. If someone can dig archives or records from both units above I hope to confirm his statements. We are not going for another "Dullias case" http://www.adler-books.com.br/livros/ Thanks in advance for any info. |
Re: Help for pilot identification.
Sergio:
You say this is not another Dullias case, but beware. The only Bauer listed as making claims in JG 2 is an Eberhard making two claims in 1940 and 1941. There is no Albert Bauer listed in the claims lists for east or west and his name does not appear on "aces" lists. |
Re: Help for pilot identification.
Thanks John.
Maybe I do nor wrote correctly my thoughts. I said we are not going for another Dullias case, so if a positive confirmation is not possible, book will be droped. Adler still not think in producing "fiction" books. |
