the rest of the plane was recovered by Germans a few days later.
and they told me indeed the crew was dead.

Phillipe...

If the machine belonged to 2./St.G.2, then code would most likely have been T6+?K, with the '?' being red. Perhaps others can provide the individual aircraft letter for you.

Regards...

Re: info sought on stuka crashed may 1940 area GOEDSENHOVEN airfield and LUBBEEK

Hello,

Thanks to Peter Cornwell, the EOE Loss/Damage data base for every Luftwaffe a/c we can find from a wide variety of sources is finished for the period 9.39 through 12.40. This includes all the date gaps and theaters not previously covered, and many revisions and updates to all previously published data bases. We will, however, undoubtedly be making further updates indefinitely.

For the JU87B loss incidents to I./StG2 requested in this thread for May 12, 1940, Peter has come up with evidence for only two of the five. Further evidence, other than here say, for any of the other three incidents indicated would be welcome and much appreciated. Does anyone know if the KTB for I./StG2 exists for the Western Campaign period?:

"Stab I./StG2 Junkers Ju87B-1 (5136). Shot down by Hurricanes of No. 3 Squadron south-west of Hasselt and abandoned over Geetbets, north of Grazen, 8.30 a.m. Possibly one of those attacked by P/O Carey. Pilot believed baled out unhurt, BF Uffz Heinrich Basler killed. Aircraft 100% write-off. Major excavation by local enthusiasts 1990 recovered engine, propellor blades, section of fuselage, remains of undercarriage, cockpit canopy, armament, radio, maps, parachute, and scraps of uniform.

2./StG2 Junkers Ju87B-1. Shot down in combat with Hurricanes of No. 3 Squadron between Diest and Leuven and crashed at Lubbeek 8.30 a.m. Possibly one of those attacked by P/O Stephens. FF Uffz Robert Stachowiak and HB Gefr Egon Hummel both killed. Aircraft 100% write-off."

Unfortunately, no info on the a/c codes for these two aircraft is presently known to us. Does anyone know if contemporary photos of either of these crashes exists?

Regards,

Re: info sought on stuka crashed may 1940 area GOEDSENHOVEN airfield and LUBBEEK

hello Larry,
the one from Lubbeek i have found a picture where a woman is sitting on the wreckage but no details to be seen,
the same woman from whom i received that picture told me that the germans get the wreckage a few days later.
what i am after (the one of 5136 geetbets)is any sign that could fill up the code.
is it not (as i don't know anything about composition of units) that the staffel number is also a piece of the code and than you have its personal number if i am correct ??
Phil
