Hi Blythsco

I don't suppose you have found any of either B.11 Longues - or the nearby gun battery at Longues do you?

cheers

Allan

I would have to say no since B11 was apparently not completed until June 21. I believe that he was flying in a Northeasterly direction from B3 and hit the beachhead here which would probably be to the East of B11:

There appear to be some batteries in the above linked photo. I also have additional photos of this mission which have not yet been scanned.

All the best

Hi Scott

Many thanks for the prompt response - Dad actually landed on Juno beach just before the big storm and then helped set up B.11 as part of the Advanced Party of 125 Wing - but any photos taken pre-D-Day of the battery at Longues would be greatly appreciated if any appear.

Sadly he passed away, at 88, a month ago today and is in my thoughts as I type this.

cheers

Allan

Sorry to here about your father Allan. He must have had some stories to tell about his stay on Juno Beach.

I recently acquired a new "lost" batch of my father's wartime photos including a number from this mission on June 12th. That is where I obtained the photo of ALG B3 which JV, who is a member of this forum, was kind enough to identify. I will be scanning these and posting them as time permits.

Best Regards
Scott Blyth

Hi Scott

Apparently he didn't stay on Juno for long - he recently told me that he and his colleagues went up on deck on their LST and talked to the Bofors gunners as it came into the beach - then they got into their trucks, drove up through the white (mine field tapes) tapes to a concentration area where they threw off the waterproofing.

They were supposed to be based at Caen-Carpiquet and headed in that direction - only to be stopped by shelling - they looked down into the ditches and saw soldiers who said that they were the front line!! So they hastily turned the trucks around and drove back (this turned out to be near to Cambes) and they settled down a few days later at B.11 as the first part of his European Tour '44-45.

cheers

Allan
