To Norwegian friends - 11 July 1942

Hello,

I search about the victory of Uffz. Erich KOCH, from 12./JG 5, based at Throndheim, on 11 July 1942 : he shot down a RAF 248 Sqdn Beaufighter close to Hitra Island.

Both crewmen of the Beaufighter (F/Lt. Dugald T.M. LUMSDEN and W/O Donald H. GOFFEE), slightly injured, were captured by the Germans. They were taken in a PoW camp and survived the war.

My questions :

- by chance, could a "combat report", written by Uffz. Erich KOCH, be kept ?

- did the Beaufighter crash, or did it do a forced-landing, or a ditching? which precise place ?

- both crewmen were slightly injured ... during the combat ? landing or ditching ? bailing out ?

- their capture : which circumstances ? in sea picked up by a German rescue ship or a Norwegian fishing vessel ? on the ground trying to escape ?

Any else information about this combat would interest me.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Kjell Sörensen has information about this case.See the page at: http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/forsnes.html

The Norwegian text tells that the crew got to the shore by themselves(there was only 200 meters to the shore)
The local people took them to Aure where they decided to become POW.They were hospitalised for a brief period in Trondheim. Then taken by train to Oslo and by Ju-52 to Berlin.

Kjell is a regular here so he might have more information. My Norwegian languge is bit rusty :)
