Sgt J C Kneubuhler - Baltimore Crash
Trying to identify details of a crash of a 203 Sqdn Martin Baltimore on or about October 3rd 1943. Sgt John Kneubuhler s/n 1293716, was the navigator and the only survivor when they were attacked by e/a off Crete and crashed back on friendly territory. Sgt Kneubuhler being admitted into RAF Hospital Benghazi on Oct 3rd and then transferred to RAF Hospital Egypt 2 days later.
Researching on behalf of family members, any help or advice gratefully received. Have researched 203 Sqdn ORB's at National Archives but by they contain no details. |
Re: Sgt J C Kneubuhler - Baltimore Crash
Perhaps they may recognise him in some of these photos of 203 Sqdn at Benghazi?

Re: Sgt J C Kneubuhler - Baltimore Crash
Other persons may verify if the names are related to your case, but the CWGC website recognizes four casualties on 5 Oct 1943 for 203 Squadron.
These are F/Lt Peter Gwynne, F/Sgt George Bridgewater, F/Sgt Robert Doddington and W/O Herbert Robinson. All commemorated on the Alamein Memorial. Regards, Leendert |
Re: Sgt J C Kneubuhler - Baltimore Crash
Don't think that Kneubuhler has any connection to the deaths of 203 Sqn 5-10-1943. On 5-10-1943 FA557 was lost over the Aegean Sea.
