avatar ghosts?

I thought I would tap in the world-wide computer technical knowledge that resides on this community for an odd problem I have.

I use Windows Vista on a 64-bit platform and Explorer 8. When I pull down the "favorites" list to select a site, 99% of the list has an avatar associated with the site, be it banks, news sites, or even TOCH. Several months ago, these avatars started exchanging themselves within the list. TOCH would become a bank, Hyperscale would be CNN, etc. Sometimes they go back to their correct avatars, sometimes not. There seems to be no pattern or timing for these changes. It does not affect the computer or the program's performance at all and the links are correct--just the avatar is different. Its just very odd.

Any thoughts?

John

those little "avatars" are called favicons, and there is common, and annoyingly ongoing, problem with IE8's handling of them. Many people in the cyber community have complained about the same/similar issues as you.

So far there doesn't seem to be a permenant fix issued by Microsoft.

Thanks, Amrit. Yet another of those seemingly endless problems with IE...........
