confused by a Plane...
" A1+AZ (the Savoia SM.75) took off from Kalamaki”
This is what a colleague wrote to me. The concerning date is 1944-03-10. "A1" would indicate the KG.53 but this unit was not in Greece (this is what another colleague told me). And whay would that Italian plane have German markings. Hope that anybody here in this forum has the details.... Many thanks in advance. |
Re: confused by a Plane...
Are you talking about the aircraft that took part in estblishing a German reporting base behind Allied lines in North Africa? If so, it belonged to Kommando Süd, eventually (if not already) the Kommando was a part of KG 200.
The aircraft's code seems more likely to have been AI+AZ, I think from some of the documents I have seen. It may have been transcribed as A1 sometimes, though. |
Re: confused by a Plane...
Nick; it is exactly that plane - it is said that it is MM.60539 which was previously used by the Italians to fly to Japan.
