Me 262 article
More pieces of the puzzle. The "good stuff" is located a little more than halfway down.

Re: Me 262 article
I know Pete Hardiman of Hillsboro, Oregon, very well. I live not far from him, and before he confessed that he was a "phony," I used to see him at monthly "Oregon Old Bold Pilots" luncheons, and at the quarterly meetings of the Oregon Chapter of the "8th Air Force Historical Society." He has told many yarns about his wartime flying experiences, until he got challeneged on a few by some veteran WW II USAAF fighter pilots. It was this that led to his confession and apologies. Until this article, most of us have not seen or heard of him for about two to three years. As a part of his confession about his wartime missions being made up, was his confession that he never flew a P-51 Mustang in combat. I can hardly wait to show this article to those WWII USSAF fighter pilots! Also, how about that fellow saying he was blown out of the 262 cockpit because he pulled the ejector seat handle instead! Nice trick, considering 262's did not have an ejector seat.

Re: Me 262 article
There is more Tom.
So the 262 they took apart in July 1945 and shipped back to the USA is now on display at the USAF Museum. Yah right. The Museum's 262 was 'captured' at Munchen-Riem by the 54th ADS and flown to Lechfeld by a Lt R Strobell of Watson's Whizzers. Along with 8 other 262s, WNr 501232, 'Yellow 5' was then flown on June 10, 1945 to Cherbourg to be loaded on HMS Reaper. Stuttgart is also ~200km from Munchen-Riems. edir. corrected WNr. |

Re: Me 262 article
Thank you Tom and Kutscha, I tend to get quite upset seeing BS articles like this regarding the 262.....the guy isn't even a good liar. And, just for accuracy, it's 501232.
