Oberst Werner Baumbach's crew

Hi all. I'm searching for the Baumbach's other crew members(rank and names) when they flew on Ju-88 A4 "A6+HH". What was the fate of crew and this plane. Sorry for my incorrect english.

Thanks!

Well first off 'A6+HH' wasn't Baumbach's machine - 'A6' denotes a recon group, 1./Fernaufkl.Gr 120 - Baumbach flew bombers in KG 30. On the other hand 'A6+HH' WNr. 1067 is a twofer - two RK winners - ORLOWSKI, Hptm. Helmuth (F)/HEIDENREICH, Oblt. Fritz (B).

So what code was on a Baumbach's personal plane?

Re: Oberst Werner Baumbach's crew

'4D+A?' for whichever Gruppe of KG 30 he was flying with? The 'A?' (B, C, D) is just a guess because Gr.Kdr./Stkp. tended to use 'A' to identify their machines - but that was by no way a standard. I think we're all waiting for some nice, detailed photos of Baumbach's machines. If anyone does have them, they ain't sharing. At least not yet. There are, I think, a couple of published photos of Baumbach and crew with their machine in the background, however they're photographed in such a way that the code of the machine is not visible.

A/C # 9 is Ju 88 A-4 A6+HH with 1./KG 30 "Adlergeschwader" in Norway in 1941. This aircraft was the personal aircraft of Maj. Werner Baumbach. This aircraft is painted in standard camo of RLM 70, 71 and 65 with Eastern Front identification markings of yellow wing tips and yellow spinners. The tail is covered in a variety of ship kill markings.

Re: Oberst Werner Baumbach's crew

I think the original reference for 'A6+HH' being Baumbach's machine came from one of the old Karl Ries books. Presume his reasoning was because of all the ship kills on the rudder. However, the code 'A6' was for Fernaufklarsgruppe 120 - Baumbach flew with KG 30 at this time - 5./KG 30 if I remember correctly. That unit had codes beginning with '4D'. The Ries' books were published during the late 60s-early 70s. I have them all, and still view them as great resources, for photos - however many of the photo captions are incorrect. 40+ years of research, availability to Lw records and many newer published sources have added boatloads of information. As an example below are the 2 references I have for the infamous 'Baumbach' 'AH+HH' -

Ju 88D-1, 1067, ./., , 1.(F), 120, , A6+HH, DI+WD, , 07-Jan-42, Bombenwurf., , Lfl.5/Nordsee, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #4)-Vol.7, Medcalf, Fl.Pl. Stavenger-Forus, 100%, F, , , Junker Flzg.Werke Bernburg in Apr-41.
Ju 88D-1, 1067, ORLOWSKI, Hptm. Helmuth (F)/HEIDENREICH, Oblt. Fritz (B), , 1.(F), 120, schwarz, A6+HH, DI+WD, 14 ship kills on fin & rudder; very worn finish, , Nov-41., Both RK., Norwegen, Meyer & Stipdonk, Von der Fliegerschule zum Einsatzverband, p.81 photo, Medcalf, Fl.Pl.
