Werk number

In Norway a part from a german bomber was found on a farm for some years ago,the part are a sort of bearing with sight for installing a MG 81,when we cleaned this part we found the number 430343 B -stand painted on the part,Probably are the number the werk number and the B-stand show it was in the rear part of the canopy. I have seen som Junker 88 with MG installed in B stand. Someone heard about this werk number before ?

Re: Werk number

I don't have this W.Nr. showing on my partial copy of loss lists. It most likely was a D-1, SKZ possibly BF+EO, built in 1942. Since it was in Norway and does not show on my loss list or Ju 88s at the war's end, it might have been lost or damaged in 1944. Lots of guesses here, no solid information.

Junker

Yes, there was one Ju 88 D-1 with W.Nr. 430343 but there are no details (in my files) of what unit it belonged to.

BTW. the Ju 88 D-1 was Recce variant (no Bomber are you say) and units it most likely once belonged to were possibly Westa 1, 5, 6 or FAGr 22, 120 or 124. These units are just from memory so I could miss some. This number does not show in losses 1942, 1943 or surviving months of 1945. As ArtieBob points out it could have been lost, missing or crashed in year 1944. Possibly it could help tracing possible crash location, if you say where that farm was.

Thank you for information, the westa units opereted from this area. The bases Ørland,Værnes and Øysand in Trondheim area was used by westa units.Perhaps this is a part from one of the Junkers left on Værnes and destroied by the allied in 1945.

Re: Werk number

I take it as this was then found at farm in Trondheim/Vaernes area? Can you confirm yes or no. This number does not appear on lists of surrendered / destroyed aircraft at Værnes Airfield.
