German translation!

Hi can anybody help with translation of the following:

Uberfuhrungsflug. Would this be " Overland flight" ?
Todl.Verletzt. ?
Geleitsicherung ?

Any help appreciated.

Rgs,
Steve.

Hi Steve

Uberfuhrungsflug: Transfer flight (from one base to another)
Todl.Verletzt: deadly wounded
Geleitsicherung: Protecting ship convoy

Greetings

Todl. is the short form of tödlich = deadly

Re: German translation!

Überführungsflug, i would say "relocation of a plane to a new base"
tödlich verletzt, deadly injured
Geleitsicherung, safety escort (for ships, planes etc)

Re: German translation!

"Überführungsflug" - not quite exactly "transfer" or "relocation flight".

This would significate "Verlegungsflug" imo.

"Überführungsflug" means the delivery of a new or repaired plane to its destination by air. This may be as final point the unit´s air base or simply a Luftwaffe distribution airfield with certain maintenance possibilities or also the gathering point from dispersed production sites to the main facilities.

Hope this helps

Roland

It's a ferrying flight.

Re: German translation!

Would it then be correct to interpret "Todl.Verletzt" as mortally wounded?

Yes, it would.

Re: German translation!

tödlich verletzt: fatal injury or fatally injured
verletzt: injured
verwundet: wounded

I would state that being wounded is in the course of combat and being injured would be during an occurrence other than combat.
