Beaufort N1118 lost 27/12/40
Hi guys
I have a note that Beaufort N1118 of 22 Squadron was shot down by ship's AA fire on 27 December 1940, the vessel being the SS Templar. I assume this was a German ship or was it a friendly fire incident? Cheers Brian |

Hi Brian
Distinctly un-friendly fire, Templar was a Sperrbrecher. Regards Ross |

Re: Beaufort N1118 lost 27/12/40
Brian,
It appears that the Beaufort had managed to launch a torpedo and damage Sperrbrecher 17, just previously known as the Norwegian M/S Templar. The vessel had was seized by the Germans at Oslo on 10 Aug 1940 and had entered Kriegsmarine service on 23 Nov 1940. Regards, Leendert |
