John A. Wenner, 363 FG, 382 FS, lost 8.4.44
 

Hi all,

has anybody further information about
2.Lt. John A. Wenner from 363 FG 382 FS ?
He flow P-51 Serial No. 43-148 and was shot down at 8th of April 1944.

I fund no MACR 3569.

Good evening Rüdiger !

Your P-51 has the USAAF-s/n 43-7148. The pilot was reported KIA this day. The German Luftgaukommando report 17 "Mustang" as lost, while actually 14 P-51 were reported by the USAAF as lost over enemy teritorry. There may be some multiple reports for "Mustang" by the Germans, but each report has it's file # and can be ordered by the National Archives. You may find here a solution for your case.

I know the only MACR No. 3569 but there are no MACR at footnote!
There is also nothing about John A. Wenner.
The dayly US-fighter report shown his name as KIA but is there somewhere a grave or is he still missing?

On website wwiimemorial.com there's an entry for 1st Lt. John (Jhon?) A. Wenner, 0-810609 from Hamilton County, OH.
Cause of death is given as FOD (finding of death) instead of KIA.

I believe this means that his death was only recorded later because the actual cause and/or date could not be established at that time by the Americans.

He's not mentioned on the MIA list (see http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo/worldwarii.htm) and so far haven't been able to locate a gravesite (yet).

1st Lt. John A. Wenner, S/N 810609, found his first burial location undr U.S. control on U.S. Military Cemetary Neuville-en-Condroz, Liege, Belgium.

According to his next of kin, he was later reburied to a cemetary in Ohio, USA. (source: Department of the Army, Office of the Quartermaster General, Memorial Division Registration Branch).

The MACR or/and the IDPF of this officer may help a lot in this case.

The location Gardelegen was given in the Group's Operation Report and this document was written some days after the loss. I don't think, that the given location helps in this particular case very much.
