Re: Me262 abandoned picture
Not sure exactly, although it's next to an autobahn. Very widely reproduced photo. Most likely Sheppach, or near Obertraubling.

Hofolding forest (Brunnthal-Neubiberg outpost) would be a candidate, too.

Re: Me262 abandoned picture
According to Robert Forsyth's "Jagdverband 44" Squadron of Experten, aviation elite units N°27 it is Me 262 WkNr 111074 from JV 44 abandoned in the Hofoldinger Forest near München.

Re: Me262 abandoned picture
Gents,
This aircraft is WNr.111747 (uncoded) found at the Sheppach Waldwerke adjacent to the autobahn. It was not located along the autobahn a kilometer north of Brunnthal as all aircraft there and in the Holfodinger Forst were collected at a field on the outskirts of the village and there is no evidence of this aircraft being there via aerial and ground photos. WNr.111074 does not exist for the Me 262 and is a typo on the April 26 1945 listing of all Me 262s at München-Riem on that date. This notation falls under the heading for JV 44. It instead should read "111704" of which an aircraft from that unit with that werknummer is confirmed via photos: "we.7" found at Bad Abling. WNr.111740 was also a JV 44 aircraft noted on the aforementioned list with four other Me 262s, one these being a complete write-off, but which one not indentified. Cheers, David |
