lV/NJG5 Rennes France March/April 1943.
'Princes of Darkness' by Claire Rose Knott states that lV/NJG5 was based at Rennes in France in March/April 1943 to help protect the U-Boat bases.
A photo of a Ju88 captioned as belonging to a detachment of lV/5 is in Aders 'History of the German Night Fighter Force'. The fuselage code appears to be a large C9+V?. Are any other photos of this unit's a/c known to exist? Is it known if Prince zu Sayn Wittgenstein was stationed at Rennes at this time? It is not clear from Knott's book. Thanks for any replies. Re: lV/NJG5 Rennes France March/April 1943.
Hello,
I can confirm that IV./NJG 5 must have been in that area, because Hptm. Walter Fenske, Staffelkapitän 11./NJG 5, shot down a Stirling in the night of 14/15-6-1943 approx. 12 km SE of Rennes. I do not know / have not researched the whereabouts of the IV./NJG 5 because my main interest is the I./NJG 1 and Venlo airfield in WW-2. Best wishes, Marcel Hogenhuis |

Hello,
I handled the loss of Stirling 15 June 1943. And I had information on Hptm. Walter Fenske and 11./NJG 5. On June 14, 1943, the 11th Staffel was based on the airfield Nantes-Chateau Bougon. http://www.absa39-45.com/15%20juin%2...__juin_43.html http://www.absa39-45.com/15%20juin%2043/njg5.html |
