Diorama Henschel HS-123
Hi guys,
I'm new here on the board. My name is Johan from the city of Leeuwarden. That's in the Low-Countries :D I'm working on a diorama with a HS-123 combined with a Kettenkraftrad and power supply. The power supply is the problem of this story. I heard you people are the experts here so please help me out! ;) Did the Henschel 123 start by mechanical, electrical, or maybe pyrotechnical? In other words did it use a power supply for startup or maybe during maintenance? Is it logical to use a power supply in my diorama? Can someone tell me what number 13 was used for? Tx in advance :) http://skyraider.allaboutwarfare.com...Hs123_cp10.jpg |
Re: Diorama Henschel HS-123
Außenbordanschluss is the receptacle for a ground power unit. In this case electric. Usually used to power all the systems in an aircraft while the engine driven genarator is not available and for engine starts to save the charge of the onboard battery. Some installations allower the on board battery to recharched while it was hooked up.

Re: Diorama Henschel HS-123
Just came across a picture were the engine is started via a crank on the lower part of the engine just like a Bf 109.

Re: Diorama Henschel HS-123
Does this mean the plane could only be started by crank or also by power supply unit? Cause it's a pre war plane so...
And is it possible that the socket was only used for the electrical systems like radio...? |

What a fantastic site! To bad the books/papers are so expensive. I send them an e-mail instead.

Re: Diorama Henschel HS-123
Update:
In the meantime i had some e-mail contact with the Luftfahrt-Archiv . The BMW engine was started with a crank. The "aussenbordansluss" is an electrical connector Siemens 77 stp 40 b. for external current-supply (= fremde Stromquelle). If the anlasswagen was used for this or just for starting the engine i don't know yet. Maybe someone does know what kind of startercart was used for this?! |
Re: Diorama Henschel HS-123
The Anlasswagen was used for electric power supply for equipment tests, weapons test and for battery relief. It was also used for engine starts when the engine was indeed started electrically. It was also capable to recharge the batteries. For this purpose there was a two stroke engine on the cart which drove a generator.
