Re: Some JG2 info from ULTRA
Great information Rod.
Do you think that the Uffz. Grossauer in your ULTRA messages is the Uffz. Großauer listed in the famous March 1945 Großostheim Kladde? That Uffz. Großauer was flying Fw 190 D-9 missions for 2./I./JG 2 on 45/03/18, 19, 20 (twice), 21, 22, and 23. Steve Shefln |
Re: Some JG2 info from ULTRA
Rod,
Thanks for posting that info. Just a comment on Bachmann's claims. The first shown as occurring on 14.03.44 is found in Tony Wood's claims lists as actually occurring on 14.08.44. Along with the claim on 26.08.44, Bachmann is listed as a member of 3./JG 2. He was Staffelführer of 3./JG 2 in Aug. 44 until he was WIA on 5.09.44. Wood also shows a claim for a Lt. Bachmann of 1./JG 2 on 8.12.44 for a P-47. This claim is not listed in the ULTRA transcript. Cheers, Tom |
Re: Some JG2 info from ULTRA
Hi Steve/Tom,
thanks for the further info. I cannot comment further other to say that the ULTRA is quoted verbatim (warts and all), as I known absolutely nothing about Tagjagd operations! Cheers Rod |

I'd say yes on the basis that the Enigma machine's keyboard didn't include a "ß" (Esszett) or any letters with umlauts (ä, ö, ü) so the messages subsitute ss, ae, oe and ue for these characters. So that's something else I must add to my guide to Ultra. |
Re: Some JG2 info from ULTRA
Hi Rod,
Anything that lists claims by day fighters from November 44 onwards is gold dust, as for your post I knew from other material in the National Archives that JG 2 had claimed on the 1945 dates mentioned but not who, now there are two names. Thanks very much. Russell |
