Three He111s 1./KG26 lost 25/6/41
Hi guys
Further reference to Les Taylor's new book Luftwaffe over Scotland, he records that three He111s of 1./KG26 were lost on 25/6/41, possibly to ship's AA fire off the east coast of Scotland. The aircraft were IH+BH, IH+AK and IH+MK. Can anyone provide further information on these losses? Cheers Brian |

Thanks Remi
Did they fall victim to one ship during a joint attack, or to several vessels? Cheers Brian |

N.1 + N.3 no data, N.2 seems to hv been victim of the "Versatile"

Re: Three He111s 1./KG26 lost 25/6/41
According to Bill Norman, Oswald & Kerney's ac came down off the Northumberland coast and only Lehmann's ac came down further north-first 2 were 2 Staffel and last one 1 Staffel. Lehmann was hit by HMS Versatile and ditched off May Island whilst 2/KG 26 ac were brought down by ships' flak from a convoy they were attacking. To say all 3 were lost off the east coast of Scotland is not strictly true

Brian,
As Chris states, you can find details in my LUFTWAFFE LOSSES OVER NORTHUMBERLAND & DURHAM (Leo Cooper 2002) pp112-115. To add to Chris's final sentence: to say that all 3 were lost off the east coast of Scotland is not true at all. (website www.billnorman.co.uk) |
