JG 2, JG 20, JG 52 & JG 3 Fighter Pilot Info Req'd
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone had any information on a fighter pilot called Rudolf DANNAT (Feldwebel in 1939 & Oberfeldwebel in 1944). He flew with JG 2 & JG 20 in 1939 & 1940 before joining 1./JG 52 in mid 1940 and flying with this unit through the Battle of Britain until early 1941 and eventually joining JG 3 in mid 1942 until the wars end. His sortie ratio seems low as there is a note in his wehrpass that states that he flew 116 Sorties with 1868 Starts (unless I have mistranslated this) (see attachment #1) and he didn't receive his Fighter Clasp In Gold award until April 1945 although he flew 14 sorties over Great Britain in 1940 & 81 sorties over Stalingrad from Pitomnik and various other airfields. From April 1941 to February 1942 he was based with Feld-Flugbetriebsgruppe der F.-Lzgr. Belgian/Nordfr. Can someone clarify what this is please? I can't see his name on Les Butler's LW Aces spreadsheet and was wondering if this was due to lack of available data or just that he didn't achieve many kills? There is an attached note in his wehrpass with something to do with serious breach of flying discipline dated Sept 1940, but I don't know if this was just a general briefing acknowledgement or actually directed at him (see attachment #2) Any amplifying information would be much appreciated. |

Thank you. I have emailed Erik asking if he can help provide more information in exchange for scans of the pilots WP. It is hard to believe that a fighter pilot could fly for so long and yet possibly have absolutely no aerial victories to his name. Hopefully the flugbuch can shed some light.
