Sgt. W. Kolsinski 54 Sq 15/8/40 shot down
Sgt. W. Kolsinski's Spitfire of 54 Squadron was shot down by Bf-109s over RAF Hawkinge on 15 August 1940. He appears to have been among the six Spitfires that were "top cover" while the rest of 54 and 501 Squadron's Hurricanes attacked Stukas and a large close escort. He was wounded, forced to crash land and was hospitalized.
Do the circumstances of this loss tie it in to the description of Adolf Galland's first Spitfire claim for that day, as given in David Barker;s Galland: The Authorized Biography?
