P-40N question on the 120 Squadron Dutch AF

Just got the Dutch decal profile ,very nice read.
I read though it alread and really enjoyed it.
I was wondering why not all of the P-40N's had letter codes on the fin/rudder?
I didn't find it in the book.
Did find that there squadron letters were RR but never added to the aircraft
Thank you for your time.
Rick.

Hi Srecko.
Thanks, never thought to try the Dutch decal sight.
It seem you sometimes are the only person to answer my question and I thank you for that.
But I understand that the questions I ask are unusual.
I just notice that you have couple of new web sights ,thats good.

Hi Rick at some time on N. Guinea 120 Sqn. had white rudders and broad white bands backing the Dutch flags, the tail letters seem to have been abandoned then ( probably temporarily). In any event the letters faded badly and are hard to see sometimes.
As you know several had American-style nicknames on the nose.
Regards Nick

Rick- contact me on email, I have system of markings of Dutch AF and hope this will be of help for you. It is long pass since I have made one profile of Dutch P-40 so I forget many details regard to the markings.

Cheers :)

Thanks Nick,
The English names I always thought that was odd.
Read somewhere the 120 squadron had US pilots but after reading this book that is not true.
Most of the pilots trained in the US so I'm guessing that is the reason for the English names plus most (if not all) of the ground crew were Australian.
I have an old Airco(?) book with a photo of the white stripped P-40's and the publisher is coming out with a second book.Of the photo's I seen it has these markings.
Srecko I sent an email your way.
Thanks Guy's
Rick
Just in case anyone is interested in these books, link.

My guess is that the letters on the tail were used in the period the squadron was based in Oz. Once operational at Merauke etc. the newer aircraft did not receive the letters.
