FW190 Losses over Austria April 5th 1945
 

Two Fw190's were lost over Austria on the 5th of April 1945.

Any info re the aircraft, the pilots and their Squadrons is most welcome.

vs west Allied or vs Soviets ??

Hi Alex:

I thought Werner's question was ligitimate.

1. Austria is a big place, even in April 1945.
2. There were lots of actions going on and flowing in from Germany, CZ, Hungary and Italy
3. Records at this date are extremely sparse unless there are FBs or KTs available.

So, you might be a little more specific as your information allows. If you do not have it, be patient. You are asking for "rare" information.

The Hungarian Assault Group had no losses on that day, check the SG 10 and SG 2 files.

could also be losses of IV.(Pz)/SG 9 ( 13. and 14. Staffel were based in Austria around that time and active vs Soviet advance in Burgenland )

or even a loss of a recce group like Aufkl.Grp. 121, 4, 11, 33, 13, 100, 12...


but I think it were - if it was in and around Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland - A/C from one of the SG units

I was unaware that there were more than two FW190 losses over Austria on the 5th of April 1945 ?

The area the victim came down in was 30 miles SW of Linz.

Where can I find the SG2 and SG10 files , are they on the internet ?

Same goes for IV.(Pz)/SG9;Aufkl.Grp. 121;4;11 etc etc, are these on the internet, Werner ?

Hello Alex,

Dunno, but definitely not on the internet. I have details regading these units when they fought over Hungary. I am collecting info about the air war over Austria just from Hungarian point of view now (so just Hungarian losses and their opponents - a big headache to me to identify the exact fate of some missing Hungarian pilots from April in Austrian territory).

I don't know a single German SG expert. Accoring to my knowledge, some German vetrans are working on an SG 10 history project, which is warmly welcomed by me.

BTW IIRC the weather was quite bad over Eastern Austria on 5 April, 1945 with very limited German air activity. Are you sure regarding the date? It's from an US claim's list?

Well, checked my sources, found 100+ assault and tank hunter missions over Eastern Austria. The losses were not mentioned with details (causes) Seems to me one total loss and two damaged planes (but I'm not 100%s ure)

Yes Date is fixed, 5th April 1945 as is the FW190 type and number .

So, two damaged and one lost, were they Fw190's or did your source not identify the type of aircraft ?
