Coastal Command Hudson bomber
Dear Friends,
Lately I've came across 'Report of attack of enemy submarine' (TNA - AIR 2/2925) written by P/O Anthony Brien John Pearson. The problem is that in this report I can not find any reference to the unit or plane which Pearson piloted apart of the description: 1. Aircraft: Z.224 Can anyone help me in identifying the plane type and unit to which Pearson at that time (June 1940) was assigned? As far as I know this was Hudson bomber from Coastal Command but this might wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! All the best, Andrzej |
Re: Coastal Command Hudson bomber
Hello Andrzej
Z.224 may have been written as Z/224 isn't it? Anyway, this was the typical Coastal Command notition of involved aircraft and just means 'aircraft letter Z of 224 Squadron. 224 Squadron was indeed equiped with Hudsons in June 1940 and the full aircraft code should have been QX-Z. Thank Hans - that was quick! :)
In fact it was Z.224 but nevertheless everything fits perfectly! Is it possible to track the crewmembers? All the best, Andrzej |
Re: Coastal Command Hudson bomber
Hello Andrzej,
The only way to find out who else was on board is to consult the Operations Record Book, held by The National Archives in London. Regards, Hans |
Re: Coastal Command Hudson bomber
