It was P-51D 44-14325 CV-N. Apparently hit by allied ground fire near Ingwiller, France but have no details of crash site.

Thanks a lot Peter .
May I ask you if you have the same information on the John Marr's A/C , he bailed out , the A/C crashed in the middle of a small town or village .

Phil,

In this story http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/359FG/05_Apr_OC.pdf
the town St. Genis de Saintonge is mentioned for Lt John Marr...
Go to page 6.

Peter,

A kind request to check again, but somehow 44-14325 is mentioned with 479th FG/435th FS instead, and according to website aviationarchaeology.com was involved in a taxying accident as late as 8 May 1945 at Merville, France...

Leendert

Thanks Leendert, Saved me ploughing through the "Outer Circles" as I have not got them indexed.

The information I gave concerning 44-14325 is correct, Daniels was flying at "Yellow 3". It never served with the 479th and I can only think that the Aviation Archaeology site took the information from my site earlier, but it is out of date. I have not yet updated my site as I have not got around to the 479th yet. The taxiing accident on 8 May 1945 was with 44-14371 J2-Y "Edith" with Raymond C Johnson at the controls.

Brian, Again, the information you have has been taken from my site listing, which is also out of date! Sorry, but trying to keep up with the amount of information that I have to for all fifteen fighter groups plus the others is daunting, and I can't always keep the on-site list up to date. 44-14769 CV-A was certainly lost on 29 January 1945 when Garland C Madison (Green 2) bailed out 16 miles West of Exeter due to being out of gas. On the same date, which could well have caused the original confusion, John Marr (White 2) was flying 44-13908 CV-K when he bellied in and evaded.

Hope this helps to sort things out for you.

Peter
