Can anyone please confirmn if Bristol was bombed on August 31st 1940 and if yes, by what aicraft and what units?
Also if I have the right date, I think they would have been engaged by 238 Squadron (Hurricanes) did the Luftwaffe have any losses from this raid or crew killed, aircraft crashed in France? Cheers Jon |

Re: Bristol Bombed in August 1940
Cheers for the answers.
Just trying to put some meat on the Bone of a Sgt Bann (238) letter in which he claims to have chased a JU88 from Bristol to near Portsmouth. I am tring to nail the date and this is one possibility He thinks he killed the gunners as they stopped firing at him ( maybe just out of ammunition) so also wondered if the JU88 made it back to France or did but with injured crew. I also appreciate the regular miss identification of aircraft, but I cant see how he mixed up a JU88 with a HE111 for the distance involved....so I am assuming it was a JU88? |
