Gloster Meteor crash in Nederlands April or May 45?

Hello all,

I am looking for Gloster Meteor crashes in the Nederlands in April or May 1945. I get a control stick and know I am looking for any history.

Many thanks for any information.

Best wishes

Rüdiger,

In that period, April/May 1945 there have been no Meteor crashes in the Netherlands.

I may be wrong, but I think you will find that early Meteors had an entirely different type of control column grip - ie of the spade grip type.

Looks very similar to a Hawker Hunter stick top.

Hi all,

many thanks. I get the information from the seller and fund the photo of a Gloster Meteor FMK 8 Cockpit located at Fighter Wolrd Museum, RAAF Wiliamstown in the net. The control stick is the same.

Best wishes

If you are sure that the stick was from a Dutch Gloster Meteor Mk 8, try to get a copy of the book "Het paard van Phaëthon".
See http://www.glostermeteor.nl/ Several locations are given where you can buy the books.
You can also contact the writer at aart.a.vanwijk@hetnet.nl

Rüdiger,

If Dutch, then the Meteor F.8 didn't enter service till 1951.

First Dutch Meteor loss was on 18-5-1949, a Meteor T.7 at Twenthe Airbase.

Dutch serials can be found here: http://www.o-d-b.nl/20060817_Gloster...de_nummers.pdf
