Gl+MR Wk Nr 2806 (P) Oblt. Walter Hesse (58246/58) Staffelkapitän PoW (O) Fw. Gottfried Groschopf (58246/252) PoW, (W) Ofw. Bernhard Manek (58246/109) killed and (FE) Fw. Helmut Klein (67020/54) killed. Crashed at Wood Farm, NE of Bramdean, Hampshire, during a mission to Liverpool. Shot down by P/O A.J. Hodgkinson and Sgt. B.E. Dye in a Beaufighter from No. 219 Sqn. For a time Ofw. Bernhard Manek and Fw. Helmut Klein were buried in our local graveyard. Does anybody know anything of their personal history, or indeed that of any of the others in the crews? Thanks in advance for any help. |

I was in touch with the Observer some years ago but he is long passed away. If you want personal details, you could ask WASt in Berlin but it is unlikely that you will get much
