He was killed in landing accident, on evening before Soviet-Polish conflict started. It was a very sad and discouraging loss of VVS RKKA.

Very interesting article. Thanks for sharing.
I am interested in reading more similar articles, even translated by Google.

However, I cannot help but notice the peculiar view on some historical aspects, e.g.:
"Liberation campaign scheduled to begin at dawn on September 17 [1939]" and " Meanwhile, the liberation campaign in Western Belarus continues."

Or,
"Stalin asked him to convey to mothers and wives of the pilots of his apology for what had to send their sons and husbands, as he put it, "out of the frying pan into the fire."

Interesting...

Sergej Gritzevetz was born in a belarus village close to Baranowichi. It was occupied in 1920 by Poland.

He died just before liberation of his motherland.

There is no doubt whatsoever that Mahyor Gritsevetz regarded the upcoming operation as "liberation of his motherland".

However, the problem is that the author states, on general terms, that the anti-Polish campaign of Sept. 1939 was actually a liberation.

"Liberation" is a political term, particularly when talking of disputed territories with mixed ethnic population. Liberation for some is occupation for others. This has to be taken into account if one wishes, or at least attempts to stay impartial.

Yes, agreed. Lets stay out of politics.

He was the most noble loss of VVS of that conflict. During that conflict VVS lost 9 a/c, all of them - because of bad weather. Gritsevetz was the first of them.
