Looking for info about a hungarian Bf 109

Gents,
while browsing through some older ebay photos a good friend of mine sent me I discovered the attached pic of a captured Bf 109 of the Royal Hungarian Air Force. If I recall correctly this should be a Györ-built a/c and it's still wearing its factory code, beginning with "W-0" (But I am no expert for hungarian aircraft).
I cannot remember seeing a captured "Messer" with those markings anywhere, so is there anything known about this example?

Cheers,
Christian

ChristianK,

I have four Hungarian Bf 109 G-14s with “W-O+numeral” markings in my database file. However, all are from Messerschmitt-Regensburg production:

G-14 782000 W-O+80
G-14 782205 W-O+58 (“58” is light colored)
G-14 782236 W-O+83
G-14 782239 W-O+84
G-14 782240 W-O+85

All but one of these reported by “F19Gladiator” over at the LEMB. I am certain there are many more out there.

Hi Christian

First of all I would not call the markings for a factory code on this Bf 109G. The W.0+xx is part of a serial number applied by the Hungarian Air Force at the time and without more info all I can say is that it is part of the batch W.0+01 to W.0+99.

These aircraft were delivered to units 101/I and 101/II

Cheers
Stig

Thank you Steve and Stig for your input, some new info for me there! Maybe something else on this particular plane will come up in the future...

Cheers,
Christian

Christian,

These are not factory codes or serial numbers at all. The markings with V.8.. row were abandoned over V.87. and the W-001 row had started after. These were Győr and WNF built aircraft and all three groups received W- marked aircraft. The really interesting in this picture is, that such row was abandoned again (well over W-200) and the remained examples were re-painted (with large colour numbers). Very few aircraft at the end of the war bore such former markins.

That's correct. The range ran from W.0+01 to at least W.2+25. These all were MTT, FAG and WNF-built '109Gs.

It would be interesting to know where and when this particular photo was taken by an American GI.

I am sorry, but I don't have any additional info about this photo...
