S/L Ronald William ATKINSON, DFC: (43537)

Hi, Forumites.
Does any one have information on this officer. He was a PR pilot and, at the time of his death, (14/8/'44)was flying with 16 Sqn. He was cremated at the Golders Green Crematorium, suggesting his death was caused by an accident, rather than in action.

Hi Andy,

You are correct in thinking Atkinson was killed in an accident, he was hit by the prop of a Spitfire on the ground (he was on foot and walked through the propellor arc). He had only took over command of 16 Sqn the previous day.
