London Gazette Terminology

Announcements in the London Gazette in respect of RAF officers are usually the headings 'Promotion', 'Commission Resigned' etc. Can anyone tewll me what the heading 'Removal' means?

Possibly a bit of a 'bucket' term used to cover a multitude of sins (Literally!). A more benign suggestion might be removal from the active service list ?
