1./NJG 4 Staffelkapitän?

Hello,

I would like to know who was Staffelkapitän of 1./NJG 4 (Florennes) after the shotdown of Hptm. Ludwig Meister on the 23rd March 1944, thus period from March 1944 to 1945?
Oblt. Fritz Gräff is quoted but it seems doubtful as he was severely wounded on the 9th July 1943 in a mid-air collision and took up again flying only on July 1944.
I thank you beforehand of your inputs.
Best regards.

Re: 1./NJG 4 Staffelkapitän?

A search of our personnel files reveals the following concerning who was Staka 1./NJG 4 in the last two years of the war:

Hptm. Alfred Haesler (Hassler?) (01.10.42 - 09/10.08.43 WIA).
Oblt. Ludwig "Luk" Meister (11.08.43 - no later than 24.03.44 WIA).
Oblt. Walter Riedlberger (1944 - 07.08.44).
Oblt. Fitz Gräff (? - 14.12.44 - ?).

This is all I could find. It doesn't properly answer your question but it may shed some light on the matter.

Hello Gents,

Thank you very much for your interest but two different answers is a little bit 'disturbing'. Whatever, the search continues...
Best regards.

This is most interesting! I have never heard of this book. Where could one obtain a copy?

Not sure where you'd source a copy your side of the pond Doug, but it and the three other volumes in the series are listed on the Christian Schmidt website - here is a link to the volume I quoted from... Teil 5 is in the pipeline as we speak...

Re: 1./NJG 4 Staffelkapitän?

Hi,

'just a note - the HW 5 series at The National Archives contains extensive ULTRA information on I./NJG4 for the late war period. No Joachim Fischer or person named Fischer is mentioned at all during the 1945 period. By this I mean that he did not fly once according to the numerous sortie reports and is not mentioned in a report that lists all 30 operational pilots of the Gruppe at the start of March 1945.

If he was a Staffelkapitiane then it cannot have been much past January 1945.

The following officers are known to have served with I./NJG4 during 1945.

Stab I.
Hptm. Johann Krause (Gruppenkdr)
Hptm. Alfred Haesler (NJG4 Ia. Formerly I./NJG4. Non-Op)
Oblt. Einwaechter (I./NJG4. Poss. Non-Op, may've been temp Gruppenkdr during absence of Hptm. Krause)
Oblt. Boensch (I. Gruppe Ic. Non-Op)
Hptm. Fritz Kinkel (I. Gruppe Ic. Non-Op)
Oblt. Liesenborgs (Stab I.)
Oblt. Grube/Gruße (Stab I.)
Lt. Artur Ewert (Stab I.)
Oblt. Heider (Stab I? Possibly Admin or Non-Op)

1. Staffel
Lt. Rudolf Krimphove (1. St)
Lt. Hans Reum (1. St)
Oblt. Friedrich Gräff (1. St)

2. Staffel
Hptm. Herbert Schulte Zur Surlage (StKa 2. St)
Lt. Karl Kern (2. St)
Lt. Wolfram Rinker (2. St)
Hptm. Pawlitke (2. St)
Hptm. Kranz (2 St)

3. Staffel
Oblt. Rolf Klages (StKa 3. St)
Lt. Erhard Düttmann (3. St)
Oblt. Willi Brünig (3. St)
Lt. Helmut Ensinger (3. St)
Oblt. Kadleik (3 St)

Officers with I./NJG4 during 1945, Staffel unknown:
Lt. Bynil (?)
Oblt. Fiedler
Hptm. Heindorf
Lt. Robert Rösler (may have transferred to Stab III.)
Lt. Rolm (?)
Uffz./Lt. Seifert/Seiffert
Oblt. Siglich/Sigloch

Cheers
