Does somebody know more of this guy:
Oblt. Metzner (or ?Metzener, Helmut) ?

What was the general task for a Kampfgeschwader-Abwehroffizier?

Apparently, this is the fellow in question:

METZENER, Helmut.
(DOB: 12.03.22).
24.08.42 Lt., awarded the Ehrenpokal.
09.01.43 Lt., 6./KG 6 awarded the DKG.
01.07.43 in KG 6, promo to Oblt.

I've never heard of an " Abwehroffizier". Counterintelligence officer? What would be the purpose? This sounds like some sort of misquote.
