Hello all,

I am looking for info on Erich Dobrick. He was with JG 3 and later JG 11. Who can provide more details on him? Thanks in advance.

A search of our officer career database shows nothing about this guy. Apparently he was too small a fish. However, the Kracker Archive has come through with the following:

Dobrick, Erich. Oblt. 9 kills total. - 2./JG-1 (9/39), 6./JG-3 (5/40), 5./JG-11 (9/43), Stab I./JG-11 (11/43), 2./JG-11 (3/44) - Bf 109E in JG-3, Bf 109G in JG-11 - EP, EK 1 & 2, Fighter Operational ClaspOne known victory, his 1st, a LeO-451 on 31 May, 1940, no location. A Spitfire south of London on 18 August, 1940. His 3rd, a B-17 on 26 February, 1943, an Ofw at the time. His 4th victory, a B-17 at Westerholt-Nordeney on 27 September, 1943. His 5th, a B-24 N of Emmerich on 13 November, 1943. His 6th, a B-17 NW of Eitorf on 22 February, 1944. His 8th, a B-17 N of Hölstedt on 6 March, 1944. His 9th, a B-17 near Haldensleben on 29 March, 1944. Magnus Report.

Does anybody know where and when he was born. It seems that he survived the war.

On 18th August 1940 he was shot down and wounded in combat with Britsh Spitfires, he belly-landed his Bf109 at Boulogne, France.
I cound find only seven confirmed claims for him.....he may have others unconfirmed-

18th August 1940 II./JG 3 Fw Spitfire South of london 1430 hrs 6000 metres. Nr 1
27th September 1943 5./JG 11 Lt B-17 1120 hrs 6000 metres. Nr 2
13th November 1943 I./JG 11 Lt B-24 1208 hrs 8000 metres v,n,e-a.s.m. Nr 3
22nd February 1944 I./JG 11 Lt B-17 North-Wst of Eitorf 1540 hrs 7000 metres. Nr 4
24th February 1944 I./JG 11 Lt B-24 Gotha area 1325hrs 7000 metres. Nr 5
6th March 1944 I./JG 11 Lt B-17 North of Thorlstedt 1220 7500 metres. Nr 6
29th March 1944 2./JG 11 Oblt B-17 East of Braunschweig 1359 hrs 6500 metres. Nr 7.

His wounds on 18th august 1940 would explain his lake of claims for three years, though the Micro Films for I./JG 11 only start on a daily entry basis in 1943, and the actual Micro Films prior to this for I./JG 11 only are yet to be discovered, or were destroyed at some point, but I guess he may have made some claims in this period. Could not find a death for him, but he seems to disappear abruptly at the end of March 1944, when at his most successful. Being an officer I would guess that if he was killed is was after being transferred away from JG11.

Thanks for your reply. It seems that Oberleutnant Erich Ernst Ferninand Dobrick lost his life on 11 April 1944 near Rela.Krems.

Rob,

As you know the loss of this Erich Dobrick on 11.04.44 comes from the Volksbund website. His grave is listed as being in Gdansk, Poland and his rank is given as Leutnant. I am not convinced that this is the same guy who served in JG 11. His loss is not mentioned in the Prien history of JG 1 and JG 11 and, as Johannes states, his last claim was on 29 March 44 with I./JG 11 with the rank of Oberleutnant.

Now it is certainly possible that Dobrick was being transferred to a unit in the East and died en route with his rank being incorrectly recorded. However in the absence of more concrete information it is questionable whether this is the "correct" Dobrick.
