JG54 aces by January 31 1943

Real odd stuff but...

Highest scoring pilots in 1./JG54 by the end of January 1943 were ...

Nowotny 62 victories, Adameit, 34, Teumer 15+, Weiss 12, and Dobele 9?

JG 54 aces by January 31, 1943

Hello Keith

High scoring aces of 1./JG 54 by the end of January 1943 included: Ademeit (36), Döbele (7), Götz (56), Nowotny (62), Teumer (21) and Weiss (12) as based on Prien. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Cheers again, Leo. I hadn't realised Gotz was in 1./JG54

I have not Jochen Prien's book covering 1942 on the Eastern Front, but I have an Ofw Hans Clausen scoring 17 victories with 1./JG 54 between June 1941 and April 1942, and then two more in June 1943 with the same staffel. He is not in the JG 54 loss list.

Götz was in 1./JG 54 in 1941-1942 according to my source but all his victories in 1943 (starting on 13 January) were scored with 2./JG 54.

A future Expert that was also at the time a member of 1./JG 54 was Uffz Karl Schnörrer, but he had only a score of 2 or 3 victories in January 1943.

A Lt Helmut Wettstein scored a kill on 14 February 1943. This guy also became an Expert later, with a final score of 33-34 victories, but I don't know if he was with 1./JG 54 in January and what his score was then.

JG 54 aces by January 31, 1943

Hello Laurent

Prien has Götz with 1./JG 54 until 2 February 1943 which is when the victory and loss lists end. According to Obermaier he was appointed Staffelkapitän of 2./JG 54 on 22 February 1943 so possibly he was with 1./JG 54 until that date.

Horrido!

Which also means that Götz, contrary to many sources, was not the pilot of the well-known Bf 109F-4 'white 1' of 7./JG 54 as pictured from Finland. (That was Stkp. Werner Pichon vom Hofe as discussed on the LEMB board.)
