Color photos of captured Fw 190 A of Sch.G.2
I may be late and everybody has seen them already. For those who haven't, there are some very interesting color photos of a captured Fw 190 of Sch.G.2 including a close-up of its emblem. The tail appears to have had a yellow upper tip. Unfortunately, no W.Nr. can be seen. Does anybody know which Fw 190 this was? There is a photo of a very similarly looking Fw 190 A-5/U3 in Andrew Arthys and Morten Jessen's excellent book Focke Wulf Fw 190 in North Africa on page 150, which, however, appeared not to have a yellow tail tip.:

Note the red (primer) spots (possibly repaired damage from gunfire?). http://www.criticalpast.com/cpdata2/...0_003818_3.jpg Regards, Roger |
Re: Color photos of captured Fw 190 A of Sch.G.2
Hi Roger,
Something tells me that I have seen other published images of this kite somewhere before. I have an unpublished photo of it showing it bellied-in and far worst for wear. While a good view of the tail is shown, there seems to have been some repainting and the werknummer is not visible. The full code is "ge.C+I" outlined in black with the last letter of the stammkennzeichen - "L" - visible. My guess that it was found in Sicily, and it appears to have been used as a hack. Hopefully other can provide more details. Cheers, David |

Hi Roger and David,
The aircraft shown on the photos is Fw 190 A-5/U8 W.Nr 0150 1437 'Yellow O' of 7./Sch.G. 2, captured by the Allies at Catania airfield. This aircraft, piloted by Ofw. Johannsen, made a forced landing at Catania on 3 July due to engine problems, and was then damaged in a bombing raid on 4 July. Ofw. Johannsen continued to serve with the same Staffel when it became 3./SG 4 in October 1943. The story of this aircraft and the Fw 190-equipped units in Sicily is due to be released soon in our book 'Fw 190 in the Battle for Sicily', and I will make an annoncement as soon as it is available. Unfortunately, a sample of the book exceeds the size limit for this site, but there will be a sample available online soon. Instead I have attached the cover of the book. All the best Morten |

Hi David and Morten,
Thanks a lot for the ID and info about the history of this plane. Pictures like these become even more interesting if one can read about their history. Morten, I am looking forward to your new book! Best regards, Roger |
Re: Color photos of captured Fw 190 A of Sch.G.2
Hello Roger,
Are photos of the aircraft still available somewhere? I own Morten & Andrew's book but would like to add the above images to the files if possible. Best, Milos |
