Spitfire crash dates - serials anyone?
Reading though my grandfathers RAF logs 67 MU Taunton I think.
(being part of a crash salvage crew in the west country during 1942) He has a number of aircraft he had to deal with that had been involved in landing accidents or similar. I am interested in finding out some infomation on the Spitfires and P-40b Tomahawks, their serials, reasons why they had to be recovered and prehaps who was flying them at the time. The entrys I am most interested in are (all he lists are date of crash -or recovery?-, aircraft type and the crash location and Cat. 16.2.1942 BP Defiant Whitchurch on aerodrome B 23.2.1942 Tomahawk Corfe Castle in field E 25.6.1942 Spitfire illegible location nr. plymouth (arabeer?)on aerodrome B 14.7.1942 Spitfire Exeter on aerodrome B 1.8.1942 Spitfire Buxham? Boxham? cliff !?! E 5.8.42 BP Defiant Zoyland? (prehaps involved with a Airspeed Oxford as this seems to be in the same column?) no indication of where. E |
