Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
Can anyone recognise this emblem on that Stuka in Chania area 05.1941?
It looks like a spider or such a thing. thanks in advance Byron |
Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
Similar to the unidentified emblem 535 on page 59 of Luftwaffe Emblems by Barry Ketley & Mark Rolfe (Hikoki). Also discussed on LEMB here

Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
As far as i know, there were only 4 Sturzkampfgeschwader (with Ju 87) in May 1941 fighting at Crete:
St.G. 1, 2, 3 and 77. All of them with the well known emblems. Maybe that`s a privat one, or ??? |
Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
And what is the fuselage code? Are there any letters visible?

Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
Hi,
I have a photo from E-bay showing part of the code: ??+NR or ??+NP with white or yellow "N" letter. Now tell me please which dive-bomber units were operating over Crete? Robert |
Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
as i said
St.G. 1, 2, 3 and 77 |
Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
Looks as if the top part has been chalked in and only the bottom part has been painted. A work in progress perhaps???.
I'll dig out a German book I have on Luftwaffe emblems and see if it's in there :-) |
Re: Unknown emblem of a Stuka in Chania
Sure a work in progress. I agree with Clint. The art looks very similar ( bottom part ) with the badge nș 535 of the mentioned book. There are several guide lines in the drawing that makes it looks a different one.
