Bombing of Brailsford 10 April 1941
 

Just by chance I found out that my village was bombed in the early morning of 10 April 1941. The bombs fell about a mile apart and exploded around 00.15 in the morning. Two horses were killed and some buildings heavily damaged.

It would be nice to find the aircraft, but if not so the (possible) type and unit.

I would like to know which units from Luftwaffe were operating that night, as the main target I am told was Birmingham that night. Perhaps there is a likely aircraft or unit!

Has anybody out there a clue, please?

9-10 Apr 41, the target was Birmingham but Tyneside, Southampton, Great Yarmouth, Portsmouth, Brighton, Bristol, Avonmouth and Plymouth were also attacked. In the case of the Birmingham attack, only the units I/KG 54, II/KG 54 (all Ju 88), II/KG 55, Stab/KG 55 (He 111), III/KG 1, KG 7 & KG 77 (Ju 88) were operatating over the target at the time you quote so to pinpoint who dropped the bombs you mention is impossible

You missed out Lowestoft and mentioned that ....place over the border again Chris ! Probably does not compare with what fell elsewhere, but we (LT) had 10 bomb-loads and 20 people were killed. Worth a mention in the footnotes ?

BC: Thanks for this but I got the attack details (by II/KG 1, KG 76, KG 77 & III/KG 26) from Luftwaffe records so did they get their victim wrong (i.e did GY get hit or not)

A: Yes they did get that...place in Norfolk up the coast from us, two HE bomb-loads at 2310 and 0129 (10 April). The latter comprised 16 x 50 kg HEs which were all UXBs. The casualties in this raid were 2 killed, 3 injured.

What sort of gen have you got on 21 April 1941 ? Ken Wakefield's write-up in Blitz: T&N Vol 2 says they (returning crews) claimed fires in the docks at that...place, but we now know NO BOMBS fell there that night - but plenty in LT !!!
