Luftwaffe raid on Lincolnshire during night 11/12.4.1941
Hi all,
I would like to ask for help with the raid on this date in the area around Lincoln and Sleaford. From Foreman's book I know that this night there were following units operating: KG1, KG26, KG27, KG40, KG54, KG55. Beyond Bristol and Newcastle there were other scattered attacks and I would like to find out if any of the bombers were detailed to attack Lincoln or Sleaford or any other targets in this area or if any crew was forced to jettison their bomb load over this area. The reason of my question is a diary from this period of a airman stationed in the area who noticed that bombs were dropped near their camp in Cranwell. Many thanks in advance for any help Pavel |

The main target that night was Bristol and surviving Luftwaffe records make no mention of anything in the area you are interested in. I wonder if it was an NJG 2 intruder?

Re: Luftwaffe raid on Lincolnshire during night 11/12.4.1941
Yes thats what I would start my lines of investigation along as Chris suggests....if one could establish number and type perhaps of bombs this could be useful. Cranwell was a known NJG2 target. there are no NJG2 claims for this night, but that doesnt mean the "rats" werent operational. If a time of the bomb bursts at cranwell could be ascertained this could be compared with the main raid times and possibly work out if this was an early raider or late one that was disorientated...if timing is vastly outside main raid times then an intruder would be a good bet....Cheers Jules
