Who was Hauptmann Born ???

In the following report we can see the name of Hauptmann Born, kommander of an Arado Staffel (obviously the Aufkl.Gru.126).
I never heard this name.

any ideas?

There ws a Hpt. Karl Born but I believed he was a Seenot. pilot/Kom.

And presumably the Karl Born who was author of "Rettung zwischen den Fronten", a history of the Seenotdienst.

Thaks gentlemen, but

Karl Born can`t be the one i am looking for.
The Rettungsstaffel 7 based in Phaleron had only He 59 and Do 24 (no arados) and they didn`t have an officer named Born (as far as i know of course)

A search of our officer career files reveals eight "Hptm. Born"s. Which of these were associated with the Ar 196 is not so clear but with a bit of checking it appears that the one you are looking for is one of:

BORN, Karl. 12.39 Lt.(d.R.), appt Staka 4. Seenotstaffel (to 09.41). 11.09.41 Hptm., appt Staka 9.(Erg.) Seenotstaffel (to 20.10.43). 10.44 Maj., appt Kdr. Seenotgruppe 81 and Seenotstaffel 81 (to 08.05.45).

BORN, Karl-Heinz. (DOB: 02.08.13 in Rostock). 10.41 in 3./Aufkl.Gr. 125. 01.03.42 promo to Hptm.(Tr.O.). 07.05.42 WIA. 13.03.43 in Fliegerwaffentechnischen Schule (See). 10.43 appt Major beim Stab in Stab/SAGr. 126. Last rank: Hptm.

We suspect that these two may in fact be the same fellow. More information is needed.

I think it is the same person, maybe he was in service with Stab Aufkl.Gr.126 in the year 1942 aswell.

Check this site http://www.dornier-wal.com/english6.html which gives the Seenot Karl Born as 1910 to 2004 so I it does not look like the same man. My own interest in him was when I read that after the wars end his unit continued to fly wounded etc. back to Germany under RAF escort,
