Unteroffizier Heinrich Wehrmann I./K.G. 53

I just acquired a grouping that belonged to Unteroffizier Henrich Wehrmann, who served with the I./K.G. 53 "Legion Condor," specifically the 2. and 3. Staffeln. Wehrmann and his crew were shot down over the northern Russian Front on Christmas Day, 25 December 1942. I am wondering if anyone can provide me with specifics of the mission of the I./K.G. 53 that day, the names and positions of the crew members assigned to Wehrmann's aircraft, and the type of aircraft they were flying, which I believe was an He 111, and possibly the aircraft tactical marking. Thanks in advance!

The KG53-book from Motorbuchverlag contains a "success report" about that day.
- 12 He 111 used (7 hit by fighters & Flak)
- target: supply of Wlikje Luky (big battle for several months)

There is no total or personell loss mentioned.

But in the losses, a 111 H-6 WkNr 7402 is mentioned "NW Nowo- Sokolniki", the four other crew members being "only" WIA, see attachment.

Whar does your grouping include?

yogybär,

Thanks for the information. I just looked at the German War Graves Web site and saw that Wehrmann was shot down 15 km n.w. Nowosokolniki, so the He 111 H-6, Werknummer 7402, most likely was the aircraft he flew in.

My grouping includes all of Wehrmann's award documents, including the E.K. I and II, Frontflugspangen in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold with Pendant, Eastern Front Medal, Ehrenpokal and German Cross in Gold. It also includes the actual Ehrenpokal and Wehrmann's Wehrpass. Additionally, there are a few photos of Wehrmann, some of his father's papers and the last letter that Wehrmann's parents wrote to him, which was returned to them because Wehrmann had been killed in action. When I have a bit of time, I will snap a few photos.

It definitely was, as "my" personnel info up there is linked to this plane in the loss list.
