Kind of OT: German Occupation of the Ionian Islands;
Guys:
This question is a bit OFF TOPIC but not by much; I was curious if anyone can point me to some info RE: Germany's occupation of the Ionian Islands in Greece after Italy's surrender in Sept 1943; specifically if anyone knew the unit/units involved in occupying my mother's home island of Paxos, a small island south of Corfu; she was only 4 years old at the time but one of her strongest memories was a One armed German officer or NCO who used to come by their farm to trade for the family's produce---and gave my mom & her brother a bar of chocolate for them; it was the first time she ever had eaten chocolate so it sticks in her memory; so now I wonder if I can find out the identity of this One armed German Soldier; apparently this man appeared to be in command of the unit that occupied Paxos; Thanks, ahead of time; NickM |
